Διαδηλωτές απέκλεισαν σήμερα δρόμους στο Μπέλφαστ της Βόρειας Ιρλανδίας και πυρπόλησαν οχήματα, ανάμεσά τους ένα λεωφορείο, την επομένη μιας αιματηρής επίθεσης με μαχαίρι που αποδίδεται σε πρόσφυγα από το Σουδάν, όπως μεταδίδουν δημοσιογράφοι του Γαλλικού Πρακτορείου Ειδήσεων (AFP) και βρετανικά μέσα ενημέρωσης.

Η τοπική αστυνομική διεύθυνση και οι βρετανικές αρχές απηύθυναν κατ’ επανάληψη εκκλήσεις για ηρεμία και αυτοσυγκράτηση στον απόηχο της επίθεσης, το βίντεο της οποίας προκάλεσε σοκ στην κοινή γνώμη.
Ένα βίντεο της επίθεσης, με σκληρές εικόνες, κυκλοφόρησε σε μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης. Σε αυτό εμφανίζεται ο δράστης να κάθεται πάνω σε έναν άνδρα που αιμορραγεί και κείτεται στο έδαφος, προσπαθώντας να του κόψει τον λαιμό. Τρεις άνδρες φαίνονται να παρεμβαίνουν, ένας εκ των οποίων εξουδετέρωσε τον δράστη χτυπώντας τον με ένα ρόπαλο.

Ο φερόμενος ως δράστης της χθεσινοβραδινής επίθεσης, ηλικίας 30 ετών σύμφωνα με την αστυνομία, συνελήφθη για απόπειρα δολοφονίας. Η αστυνομία ανέφερε πως πρόκειται για Σουδανό, αφού αρχικά δήλωσε πως είναι «πιθανώς Σομαλός».
Το θύμα, κοντά στα 40 του χρόνια, νοσηλεύεται σε κρίσιμη κατάσταση.
Από τις 7 σήμερα το απόγευμα (τοπική ώρα, 9 το βράδυ στην Ελλάδα), εκατοντάδες διαδηλωτές – μεταξύ των οποίων πολλοί κουκουλοφόροι – είχαν αρχίσει να συγκεντρώνονται σε διάφορα σημεία του Μπέλφαστ. Στήλες καπνού υψώνονταν στον ουρανό της πόλης, όπου διακρίνονταν ελικόπτερα της αστυνομίας, σύμφωνα με το AFP.
