Greek tourism maintained its positive momentum, according to the latest statistical bulletin of the Institute of Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE) Intelligence.
Between January and June 2026, Greece recorded 10.7 million international air arrivals, an increase of 396,000 or 3.8% compared with the same period in 2025.
In June alone, international air arrivals reached 4.1 million, up by 80,000 or 2% year-on-year.
During the first half of 2026, Athens International Airport recorded 3.8 million international arrivals, remaining virtually unchanged compared with the same period last year (-0.04%). Thessaloniki Airport recorded 1.2 million arrivals, up 5.6%, while Heraklion Airport reached 1.5 million international arrivals, an increase of 7.1%. Arrivals in Chania reached 616,000, rising by 13.2%.
International air arrivals increased across all geographical regions during the January-June 2026 period. Crete recorded the highest number of arrivals, with 2.1 million, marking an 8.8% increase compared with 2025. It was followed by the Dodecanese islands with 1.6 million arrivals (+1.7%), the Ionian Islands with 1.4 million (+7.5%), the Cyclades with 350,000 (+6.7%) and the Peloponnese with 83,000 (+3.1%).
Domestic air traffic also recorded growth, with arrivals reaching 4.6 million during the first half of 2026, up 5.2% compared with the same period in 2025.
Domestic arrivals in the first quarter reached 1.8 million, an increase of 7.5% year-on-year.
The second quarter also started positively, with domestic air arrivals reaching 802,000 in April (+5.1%). May recorded 912,000 arrivals (+3.2%), while June reached 1.1 million (+3.2%).
Athens recorded the highest number of domestic air arrivals, with 2.2 million (+4.9%), followed by Thessaloniki with 610,000 (+4.9%). Heraklion recorded 450,000 arrivals (+1.1%), while Chania reached 238,000 (+7.3%).
