Belgian authorities have withdrawn an arrest warrant issued against former European commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos in connection with the Qatargate corruption investigation.
Avramopoulos voluntarily appeared before the Belgian judicial authorities to provide explanations, bringing documents and other evidence which, he says, demonstrate that he has no connection to the allegations against him.
The Greek parliament had previously lifted Avramopoulos’ parliamentary immunity in connection with the case.
The case is now considered closed by the Greek judicial authorities, as there is no longer an active arrest warrant against him.
