Revolut gets Bank of Greece approval for local branch, plans Greek IBAN rollout

Revolut established a Greek branch and appointed Vasilis Ameranis as General Manager to lead its next phase of growth in the country

Digital bank Revolut said on Friday it has received regulatory approval from the Bank of Greece to establish a local branch, marking a significant step in expanding its presence in the Greek banking market.

The company also announced the appointment of Vasilis Ameranis as General Manager for Greece, where Revolut says it now serves more than 2 million customers.

Following the completion of the licensing process, Revolut has established Revolut Greece, a branch of Revolut Bank UAB, and plans to introduce Greek IBAN (GR IBAN) account numbers in the coming months. The lender said it also intends to expand its offering in Greece with additional banking products at a later stage.

Ameranis will lead the company's next phase of growth in Greece, overseeing a local management team made up of executives returning from international careers as well as professionals recruited from the domestic market.

"This marks the beginning of a new chapter for Revolut in Greece," Ameranis said in a statement. "The approval to establish our local branch is a major milestone that will allow us to build a truly local bank while continuing to offer the innovation, speed and customer experience that millions of people already expect from Revolut."

"Our goal is simple: to become our customers' primary bank by providing everything they need to manage their financial lives in one place," he added.

Ameranis has more than a decade of experience in banking, strategy and digital innovation. Before joining Revolut, he held senior management positions at the National Bank of Greece after previously working as a consultant at McKinsey & Company.

In his new role, he will oversee the localisation of Revolut's products, the expansion of the company's Greek team and the development of strategic relationships with regulators and the broader financial services ecosystem.
