Deputy Prime Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis, visited the construction site in Votanikos to inspect progress on the area’s major urban redevelopment project

Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, visited the construction site in Votanikos to inspect progress on the area’s major urban redevelopment project, which includes the new stadium for Panathinaikos FC.

During the visit, Hatzidakis toured the site and reviewed the ongoing works, while new footage was captured from inside the under-construction stadium, illustrating the pace of development and offering a glimpse of what will become the club’s new home.

“The Panathinaikos stadium in Votanikos is progressing at a very fast pace and will be completed in the summer of 2027. In other words, Panathinaikos will play in this stadium in the 2027–28 season. This is positive news for Panathinaikos, for Greek football, and for Athens, as this project is part of the wider double redevelopment plan,” Hatzidakis said.

The Votanikos redevelopment is one of the largest ongoing urban development projects in Athens, involving extensive infrastructure upgrades and interventions in the surrounding area, aimed at revitalising the district and creating modern facilities.

The Deputy Prime Minister was also briefed on the works for the new Panathinaikos amateur sports centre, which will include an indoor gym, training facilities, and an Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool. Following the completion of the tendering process and preliminary building permit approval, the facility is also expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.

Finally, Hatzidakis visited the Votanikos Business Park construction site, developed by DIMAND S.A. on the grounds of the former Athens Paper Mill. The project features a modern mixed-use complex with office spaces, complementary uses, and extensive green areas, delivering 63,000 square metres of built space. Completion is expected in the second half of 2028.
