Alexandros Giotopoulos is to be returned to prison after Greece's Supreme Court criminal division overturned a decision by a judicial council that had ordered his release.
Giotopoulos, the convicted leader of the November 17 terrorist group and sentenced to 17 life terms, had been released on parole by the Piraeus Council of Judges on the grounds of good conduct in prison, his consistent return from prison furloughs in recent years, and the fact that he had obtained a doctoral degree during his incarceration.
However, the Supreme Court's criminal chamber accepted the recommendation of a deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court, who reviewed the ruling following instructions from the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, and concluded that the release decision should be annulled.
